What a release of oneyaml-csharp promises, and which .NET versions it supports. This is the only place this policy is stated; other pages link here.
Versions
From 1.0.0 the packages follow Semantic Versioning. Within a major version:
- No change breaks code that compiles against the public API of
OneYaml,OneYaml.Compat.YamlDotNetorOneYaml.Compat.SharpYaml. That coversYamlExceptionand itsCategory; the text of messages is written for people and may change in any release. - The text that
YamlSerializer.Serializewrites with default options does not change, and neither do the bytes an edit leaves untouched, except to fix output that is incorrect. Such a fix is listed in the changelog.
The public API and documented behaviour change only in a new major version. A fix for wrong behaviour can come in a minor or patch release, including a change to the exception an error path throws. When code could depend on the old behaviour, the changelog marks the fix Breaking, with what to write instead.
Supported .NET versions
The packages target net8.0 and net10.0. CI builds and tests both on
Linux, macOS and Windows. Dropping a target framework takes a new major
version.
Microsoft ends support for .NET 8 on 10 November 2026
(.NET support policy).
The net8.0 target stays in every 1.x release all the same; it can go
only in a new major version.
After that date .NET 8 itself gets no more security fixes from
Microsoft, so move to .NET 10 when you can.
Security fixes go into the latest release; see Security.
